Great value; kind of quirky, April 4, 2012
    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Biostar TZ68K+ Intel Z68 ATX DDR3 1333 – LGA 1155 Motherboard (Personal Computers)

First, yay for Amazon. This was cheaper here than anywhere else.

I have built several systems over the years, and this Biostar mobo looked like a great deal for my needs. I’m not doing SLI or Crossfire, so I only need one PCI2x16 port. It supports 32GB RAM 1333 (higher speeds with XMP1 profile). It has 6 onboard SATA ports, two of which are SATA3 (6GB/s). This is more than enough motherboard for my needs.

That said, this board is a little bit odd. I’m actually having to return it due to some faulty circuitry (Gate A20 failure and virtual mode processor exception errors), but I’m not going to let that get too much in the way of my review. There are a few things that annoy me about this board, and they’re not things that you’ll see on many reviews, because there aren’t very many reviews out there.

The BIOS defaults are not good defaults. If you purchase this board, expect to change many settings before using your system, otherwise you’re going to be annoyed. A few of my pet peeves are the beep on startup, the two red lights on the board that look like error lights but actually mean the board is working correctly, and some other little BIOS tweaks that are defaults on Gigabyte and Asus boards.

The board feels a little flimsy compared to the other brands. Additionally, its ATX compatibility is not quite there. It’ll mount, but be prepared that you may have a corner or two without standoffs. It’s slightly smaller than a standard ATX motherboard, perhaps half an inch narrower.

Because it’s a smaller board, know that you’ll need low-profile RAM if you want to use a big CPU cooler. Also, the GPU may be within a couple of millimeters with the larger CPU coolers.

These may not be issues for you. It is a good board for the money, but I think in the future I will spend a little bit more for a quality Asus or Giga board.
