    Don’t Buy, January 7, 2012

Bought this at the recommendation of a friend, who thought the components looked great but had’t tried it himself. It didn’t work out of the box–it wouldn’t even boot to the BIOS. Tried resetting CMOS, stripping down to only CPU and video card and RAM, switching out RAM, using different video card, different PCI slots. Nothing worked.

After reading more about the board, especially on the MSI forums, it appears that many buyers have issues similar to mine. This is NOT just issues with the look/feel of the BIOS or location of ports. These are major issues that result in returning the board to get a replacement.

Don’t buy this board. After my awful experience with it I think I’ll avoid MSI products in the future. Any company that pushes a product this unreliable out the door doesn’t deserve my money.

I’ve used MSI motherboards before though I’d recently had an ASUS board. When I was looking for something to go with a i5 2500K cpu this seemed like the best value for the money. Overclocking is really easy with this board though I don’t think the OC Genie is that wonderful. It works but tends to overvolt the processor. Looks good, components are high quality. Good placement of various connectors. The front USB connector is a little tricky. There is a red box/housing around it that the little extra connector did not fit in.
Live Update does not work well. Don’t bother installing it.

I just love UEFI! It looks gorgeous with mouse support (though mouse support is still in its infancy)

Managed to put all my high end components into the mobo without a problem. Build quality was great.

    Got a decent OC of 4.4Ghz @ 2.95v on a i7-2600k (not brilliant)

Cons: The OC and memory OC options are a bit confusing but after some googling got it down pretty well.
