Nice size coming from a 17 inch CRT monitor, May 4, 2011

First of all, I wanted to note this…after about 15 minutes of googling this I found my answer.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE IN2020 AND THE IN2020M IS THIS:

The IN2020 is only VGA.(analog) (Cable included)
The IN2020M is VGA and also DVI. (VGA cable included but DVI cable is not included.)

Ok, for the review, got mine in Staples this week (May 1, 2011) for 119.99. In 2005 I got an LCD that I couldn’t deal with. Bothered my eyes so I returned it and got a CRT instead. So I figured that the LED/LCD might be better because they use LED back lighting rather than fluorescent. I’m handling this one much better. I use my computer at night in a dimly lit room so that’s what my problem has been. I put on a night light and that improves how it affects my eyes but that may be just me. Anyhow, coming from the 17 inch CRT, I was concerned that I’d loose height. The width is good but I didn’t want to loose the height. Didn’t. It’s about the same height as my CRT was with lots of width which is great for applications that were programed for wider screens and got squished on my 17 inch CRT or when I’m working with two or more folders open. I find the color to be vibrant and true. Had to bring the brightness down because of my lighting situation and I’m still adjusting to the LED/LCD type monitor but, all in all, I’m happy with this purchase. But shop around. (sorry Amazon). You can get a better price than $172 which was the price at the time of my posting.

One more thing I just learned from a website:
With VGA you can select 60 hz and 75 hz for your monitor’s flicker rate but with DVI you can only select 60 HZ. And the flicker rate is a major factor with me. Go from 75hz to 60hz on your monitor and maybe you’ll see it too. Also they said the DVI cable is very expensive. Can’t vouch for that but, it’s what the poster said.

This is not a bad monitor for the price. I got in on sale for less than $120. I don’t think the sale is effective any longer. The colors on this are very good. Text comes in a little fuzzy in my opinion. But for the price I can’t complain. Movie performance is flawless. I cannot help to think that the purple colors are a little overly highlighted but maybe it was the movie I was watching (The Corpse Bride). I’ve only had this monitor for a few hours so I can’t really compare it to anything for now. I am not a fan of the shiny black bezel that outlines the screen. I wish they could have made it from the same finish as the stand which is more of a matte style. This monitor is plenty wide. I upgraded from a 7 year old Dell 1704 FPTv square lcd so I am still getting used to this new 16:9 format. I am using it with a Mac mini and the monitor connected immediately. I am not sure if I am using the correct cable. It’s the single link DVI-D format. While it does fit the connector, I can’t help to think that maybe this monitor could look better with the DVI-D dual link. Any comments or suggestions on this would be appreciated. I would like to know if it would be worth it. There are not many monitors that you could get for the price that I paid so I would definitely say that I am satisfied. It would have been nice to spend a little more money for the extras such as usb connections and other ergonomic features (it only tilts) but when I see how beautifully almost any widescreen lcd enhances the user experience, I become grateful.
