    Quality 27 Incher, June 11, 2011

Extremely happy with this display. Was able to achieve the rich and natural image quality one expects from a good monitor with very little tweaking and calibration. No defective pixels or frustrating back light bleed. This will be the third display I’ve owned from Acer and I’m happy to say that the excellent quality has remained consistent. Very comfortable viewing while both gaming and designing ads in Photoshop. It’s aesthetically beautiful while mounted as well. Auto-input selection is a plus and navigating the menu system is a snap thanks to the responsive touch sensitive panel on the front. My gaming rig, Xbox 360 and PS3 are all connected and look stunning. Gaming on all fronts is very satisfying. This of one of three 27″ monitors I purchased at the same time; the other two being Samsung and ASUS brands. I thought for sure the Samsung would be the pick of the litter based on reviews but I was proven wrong. This Acer was indeed the standout.

As far as cons go, I would like to have seen a trade-off of the VGA input for a second HDMI port, but the addition of an auto-switch HDMI hub hardly makes this hardly worth mentioning. Lastly, Acer needs to get off their behinds and update their website. Absolutely no details about this specific monitor on their site. Same goes for several of their latest. You know it’s time to wake up the webmaster when retailers have more complete product info than the manufacturer. Acer, I guarantee you there’s a 17 year old new hire at your organization who can do wonders for your website. Check around. And give her a raise.

The perfect, cheap 27 inch monitor I was looking for., July 28, 2011

After lots of comparing to the other affordable 27 inchers I bought this one in June of 2011 after a few much needed specifications from FiSH, the other reviewer above. I narrowed my search down to the Viewsonic VX2753mh, Samsung S27A550H, the Acer S273HL and this one. The Samsung was overpriced and apparently not worth the extra money. The Viewsonic seemed bulky and ugly in design, and the other Acer looked like a piece of modern art that would get annoying very quickly.

Turning this Acer H274HL on for the first time I immediately knew I’d chosen wisely. It’s everything I was looking for; thin, light, looks good, comes with all the cables you could use and even after hours of use it stays easy on the eyes. I work in an extremely well lit, bright room with big windows, and I’m amazed at how clear and bright the image is even from across the room at the height of daylight. It is an absolute pleasure to read and work on this screen, my eyes just don’t get tired! And 27 inch is definitely NOT too big, it’s just right. 24 inch is too small!

As for movies, well that’s when you may notice some difference with the glossy or more expensive screens. Compared to my glossy Alienware laptop screen, yes the blacks are not as deep, the contrast not as impressive, the colors not as rich, but frankly reflective screens are useless and idiotic unless you’re in a pitch black room, and if you’re on a budget you’ll still be thrilled with the quality considering the price you just paid. Another mild negative on this Acer could be the monitor buttons / menu interface. They do not make for fluid navigation at first, so if you’re the type to be dealing with that daily it could be an issue. Personally I found a setting that works and haven’t touched the menu interface since, and you do get better at navigating through the menus after playing with it a bit, just like so many machines.

If you just want a good, matte, cheap, big monitor for a few dollars more than a 24 incher, here it is! Thanks Acer!

I could not imagine a monitor so great. It was also a very easy set up. Best of all…all cords were included, so I did not have to run to the store to pick anything up. This was good. This monitor is sharp, bright and I am almost ready to toss my glasses. I am very happy with this purchase. It was a great value.
