Solid, Fast, Affordable,
After reading the reviews I went out yesterday and picked up this card.
I have spent about 10 hours of pretty hard use and it has not glitched yet.
NOTE: the box does come with adapters to go from 2 4 pin to 1 6 pin power plugs, of course your powersupply still needs to be up to the task. I have a 550 watt supply but it only had 1 6 pin plug, so I was concerned I would have to “rig” something. I am running a Nvidia motherboard 2 gig ram, Q6700 processor overclocked to 3.2 ghz and 3 seagate 750 gig and 1 500 gig internal hard drives and have not had a issue. I have a systemax built system (BTW – not counting extra hard drives total out of pocket for system was ~ 1000.00 – before this card – that included the 8600).
I originally had a Nvidia 8600 – upgraded to a new 9800 – took that back and exchanged it for this. It has handled everything I have thrown at it – f.e.a.r. – crysis (High – running dx9), halflife 2 and several highdef movies.
For the money (heck, forget the money even) this is a very good card.

Fast card, some heat and support issues,
I liked the 4870’s performance for the price I paid but there were a couple significant drawbacks.
-1 star for loud fan speed at above 35% and incredible heat generation
-2 stars for ZERO support from visiontek
So I’d give the 4870 4 stars overall, but the visiontek’s 4850 only gets 2 because they don’t support their products. They claim lifetime warranty yet they don’t have a phone number to call! I called the 1-800-VTEK-411 and guess what, they tell you to submit a support ticket OR call a new number. I assumed that the new number would allow me to get support within 30 minutes but it wasn’t even their number! All they did was redirect consumers who had warranty questions to AMD which is not supposed to deal with warranties. I submitted a ticket a couple days ago and still no response. That’s why I hate online “support” unless it’s a live chat. Email support is usually useless.
Beware of visiontek! Worst customer service I’ve seen out of 20+ brands I’ve tried.
PS: While my 4870 wasn’t running very hot it was reaching 70C under load which is apparently normal but still worrying. I think that may have been what borked the card.

Graphics Card,
Got the job done good. The 4870 is a great video for games. It’s cheap but effective and last a while. Uses a lot of power, and was a bit dusty when I had received it.
