Great Processor,
I was looking for a dual-core that wasn’t super expensive but would get the job done. I am a photographer, working with high-quality RAW image files in Adobe Photoshop CS3. As I write this review I am converting and editing over 400 RAW image files (a total of around 5GB of data). This may not seem like a lot but on my older processor (dual core but way slower) this was a serious chore.
With the E6500 I can run Adobe photoshop (which starts up in under 3 seconds btw) batch convert, edit files, write this review, and in a second I am going to jump on Left4Dead 2 – a pretty intensive video game.
All that to say this processor can handle whatever I throw at it. I do some HiDef video editing from time to time and matched with my 4GB XLR8 PNY memory I have yet to encounter lag or stuttering.
An absolute gem of a processor, well worth the what…sixty bucks I spent on it (as of 03/15/2010)??? I would have spent […] bucks on this processor without sweating it now that I have seen what it can do!
I have done mild overclocks on this processor without any problems, but then again nothing major so I cant really comment. This processor works great without the extra bump!

Functions within prescribed tolerances,
This processor is very easy to install and it allows programs to run with relative ease. It was only running at 2.5 Ghz when I installed it. I realized that I needed to change the multiplier setting in my motherboard’s BIOS. After I changed the setting in the BIOS, it ran at the prescribed 2.93 Ghz.

Best Bang For Your Buck,
This is one of those hidden gems you don’t hear much about… a Core 2 Duo processor with less cache and a few multimedia extensions disabled (ones that most software doesn’t support and few users will miss.) What remains is a fast, dual-core 64-bit processor that scores a solid 6.4 on the Windows 7 CPU test and is plenty fast for most users… all for about $85.
Combine one of these with an Intel G41/G43/G45 based motherboard, add 4GB of RAM, a DVD-RW and a nice fast hard drive like a 500GB WD Caviar Black, and you’ll have a great 64-bit Intel-based Windows 7 budget build with lots of room for upgrades.
If you’re building a home theatre PC, swap out the DVD-RW for a Blu-ray reader and add a Raedon HD 5570 card, and you’re good to go. If you’re a gamer, invest the extra cash in a Raedon 5700 series card and you should be set for most current-generation games out there.
Point is, this processor is a great building block for a versatile system. Only heavy-duty gamers and people who do heavy-duty photo editing or media transcoding would realize the value of a higher end processor.
