Great Motherboard!,
I used this motherboard with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 and it seems like a great pairing. The motherboard is well laid out and allowed me to install a large Zalman CPU cooler with plenty of room to use all of the RAM modules (to the right of the CPU) and lots of airspace between the cooler and the Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 GPU (below the CPU). Lots of great future-proof features as stated in the specs. Very easy to monitor the system and overclock with the included software. I also really like the onboard graphics and bridge heatsinks as they are totally silent! A well made well laid out motherboard – I don’t think it can be beat for this price. Here are the specs on my build for anyone wondering about compatibility:

Another fine Gigabyte product,
Being a former ASUS fanboy, I have recently been converted to Gigabyte’s quality. My last AMD build 3 years ago used a top of the line ASUS board, it turned out to be probably the most unreliable board i have used. After 2 RMA’s of the same board, both times they returned me defective boards, i have begun to realize that asus has lost it edge in quality for the past few years. Last year i chose to switch to gigabyte for an Intel build and it has been one of the most reliable boards i have worked with over the years. This board being no exception. Right now, the 880g is running a phenom x6 1055 overclocked to 3.5 ghz(using amd heatsink). The board is loaded with great features & the onboard video/HDMI is superb. This a great mobo for those who really aren’t looking for Crossfire, but want all the perifferal inputs than you’ll need. For the overclockers out there, this board is for you, the bios is one of the best(core unlocking, various voltage & fsb adjustments). Lots of onboard connectors, but gigabyte was sparse on included cables(only 2 sata cables). Well laid out, its very easy to attach most cables, and ram is easily accessable. One piece of advice plug in mobo sata cables prior to installing drives, makes thing go alot easier. The usb3 & Sata3 are lightning fast, it’s amazing how much of a noticable difference you’ll see when you attach a compatible device. The mobo has worked flawlessly as a video encoding PC, and so far after 100 hours of operation, there has been no hiccups.
Best feature: windows 7- auto web download & firmware update! Amazon is shipping boards with firmware 2 versions behind.
Worst feature: wish it was $30 cheaper… i guess thats what you pay for better board components.
Core Setup:
1055 phenom X6
gigabyte 880g mobo
750 watt antec powersupply
4 gb ddr3 corsair xms

Revision 3.1 (Effortless Install),
I got the motherboard pictured above which is the new black socket for that motherboard and it came flashed with the latest bios. I looked everywhere for the 3.1 revision because i didnt want to get stuck with the older Revisions. I would recommend the 3.1 rev over the the older revs because of native AM3+ support and better audio codec. I’ve been running this motherboard for 2 weeks now with an AMD955 Black edition revc3 and 2 days with my new G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL and its been running perfectly on Windows 7 64bit. I’ve been using onboard video which seems to work great for HD video and internet, I do plan to upgrade to the AMD 6800 series for better gaming grahics. Overall I would recommend this board to anyone looking to purchase a future proof motherboard, buy it from retailer Amazon to make sure u get the right motherboard. (Update) I dont recommend using Gigabyte Easy energy saver, it causes the computer to hang as is a poorly made program that has never been updated and is still in Version 1.0. Another thing i’ve noticed too is that they dont advertise the CPU auto unlock feature at the Gigabyte website but the feature is in the bios. And the bios also allows you to turn off any core you want except the 1st. There is also a feature that uses less than 1w of energy consumption when your computer goes into sleep. (If you like watching lots of movies or videos I recommend using “The KM Player” over the VLC or any other player, no extra codecs needed to play any videos it plays absolutely everything itself)
