Perfect monitor for the price, December 31, 2011

First of all, the price of this monitor is great.

It has all the modern technologies in it: W-LED, DisplayPort, DVI, VGA (for compatibility with ancient video cards :)), 4 Downstream USB ports and the main thing – it’s e-IPS panel.
Almost automatically that means that it has better colour output, better angles and so on and so on, compared to most TN and VA panels on the market.

Despite its 8 ms g2g responce time, it does great job in games, even in fast shooters and online games like COD MW3, BF3, World of Warcraft, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations…

What’s more, according to tftcentral’s review, this monitor has lowest input lag of 0.6 ms compared to other panels (and they have tested a lot) tftcentral guys have tested.

About price point: monitor is priced even cheaper of some higher-end TN panels on the market, which makes it a great deal.

Pros: Great price point, Modern tech connectors, W-LED, e-IPS panel, Great viewing angles, very good colour output, very good performance even in fast games, very low input lag.

Cons: Almost nothing, maybe 16:10 aspect ratio would be more desirable, but that’s the domain of its bigger 24″ brother.

Be Aware of the Cons, September 17, 2012

This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23″ IPS LED LCD Monitor – 16:9 – 8 ms (Personal Computers)

I needed a new monitor to accompany my 15″ macbook pro while at home. After reading glowing reviews of this particular IPS screen I pulled the trigger (purchased directly from Dell). After 2 weeks with the monitor I have decided to return it. More on that later.

    I’ll begin with the pros:

    – Accurate colors (just as good as the 2011 macbook pro 15 screen if not a bit better)
    – Wide viewing angle (no yellowing or change in contrast when viewing from different angles)
    – Excellent on screen menu system (very easy to use, most other brands have terrible screen UI)
    – Superb ergonomics (buttons easily accessible on front of display, tilts and adjusts with ease)
    – Best monitor stand I’ve ever encountered (totally stable, rotates 90 deg for portrait)

    The cons:
    – Anti-glare hard coat. This is the monitor’s achilles heel. It is almost unnoticeable when you’re viewing movies or when the majority of the colors on the screen are dark. However, if the background is a solid light color (white, gray, etc.) there is a terrible haze. It gives you the impression that there is a layer of oil or filth on the screen. Most websites and programs use a solid white background. I could not get used to it. I’m awaiting a Viewsonic IPS monitor now after having done extensive research on an IPS screen without aggressive anti-glare coating. I’ll review this monitor when it arrives.
    – The brightness. The minimum brightness is about as bright as my macbook pro’s maximum brightness. You can reduce the contrast but then you lose color accuracy. It’s a no win situation. The only way I could live with this level of brightness is if I were in a terribly bright setting 24/7.
    – No HDMI. Granted the macbook doesn’t have an HDMI output, but everybody doing external output owns a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter. It does have a displayport input, but they don’t include the necessary cable. You’ll need to spend an extra $10 to get it.

If you can live with the aggressive anti-glare and high minimum brightness, this is an excellent monitor. If you’re sensitive to screen clarity and light output like I am, it’s probably worth skipping this and doing some more research. I’d begin with Viewsonic (VP2365-LED).

This is THE best monitor for gaming., August 14, 2012

This review is from: Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23″ IPS LED LCD Monitor – 16:9 – 8 ms (Personal Computers)

I spent a couple of months doing research looking for the monitor with the absolute lowest input lag available. This is kind of difficult to find because no manufacturers list the input lag of their products (response time, ie: 8 ms, is not the same as input lag).

I’ve found that the U2312HM has an input lag of 0.6 ms. That is the fastest on the market that I know of. That alone was enough to make me order this monitor, but then you have to remember that this is also an IPS LED panel as well. This thing has perfect viewing angles. You could read the screen from 180° to the side if you wanted to give it a shot.

The monitor is sturdy and has an awesome swivel type stand that assists with movement of the monitor, like some sort of spring system. You can even twist the monitor vertically with no problem at all. The design is pretty minimalistic, which I like. There is no distracting glossy finish to detract your attention from the screen or flashy logos stamped everywhere. The power button isn’t too bright.

The color levels are were okay out of the box, but did need a little adjusting. I used the settings provided here: […] *EDIT: Use the color profile from TFTCentral’s review*

As for gaming, I play mostly fighting games where just 2 frames of delay can be a huge deal which is why I usually preferred CRT televisions/monitors to play them on. Let me say that I don’t notice any input delay whatsoever with this monitor. It’s just like playing on a CRT except everything is prettier and the resolution is much better.

This monitor is the best on the market in my opinion and only costs around $230. Not to trash Dell or anything, but I wasn’t really expecting this kind of quality from them with a price like that. I highly recommended this monitor to my gaming friends and would recommend to anyone else even if you aren’t into gaming.
