Great little board.,
Looks good, ports galore, and my CPU coolers don’t hit the memory.
PCI slots designed such that you can have two big cards SLId without hitting anything else on the board.
Great features and layout, with a good price point.

Best motherboard I ever owned,
As a techie, I build or significantly upgrade my home PC about 2-3 times a year. As a result I go through a fair share of products and get to know what is good and what isn’t. For my most recent computer build, I wanted a motherboard with good audio for music and games, lots of BIOS options for customization, plus SATA 6 GB and a mATX form factor. Being that the Z68 chipset is the best out there right now, the Maximus IV GENE-Z was really the best option and I’m not disappointed with my purchase.
The motherboard is definitely high-end, with small touches you normally don’t find on a basic board, such as a plastic, labelled and custom padded in/out panel for use with your PC case. The build quality is very good. There are 5, 4-pin PWM fan headers (2 CPU, 3 chassis). And perfect for those tweakers out there, there’s a LCD display for error codes if you overclock just a little too much.
The board’s performance is excellent, as would be expected. My one complaint is regarding ASUS’ support website for drivers and software. They really screwed up the release of BIOS updates, because the most recent update has a lower version # than a past update. As a result, the EZ Flash BIOS utility won’t let you “downgrade” from your current BIOS to a lower version #. When I brought this to Tech Support’s attention via e-mail, it’s as if they didn’t even read my entire e-mail but rather sent a canned response about how to upgrade the BIOS. Having owned about a dozen ASUS products, this is not typical of them. Their service and support website are usually top-notch. Hopefully, this is just an isolated incident.
Overall, you can’t go wrong with this motherboard if you value having the best. Even if you are not a gamer, you can appreciate the extra features this board comes with, including the X-Fi audio software, a year subscription to Kaspersky AV, plus the excellent hardware. It makes the higher price 100% worth it.

Awesome Little MOBO,
Fast shipping, beautiful design troubleshooting LEDs…Intel Sandy Bridge, on board graphics,,,,What more could you ask for? So far a day in and it is running flawlessly. Asus provides ALL of the utilities to from monitoring to controlling fan speed. I mean overclocking the VGA and CPU is SO easy. Just move some sliders and thats it. Great steal for 170.
