Amd Opteron (sixteen-core) Model 6272
List Price: $ 567.00
Price:
Opteron Interlagos 6272 (16 cores) 2.1GHz,
Its price around $520/each, I don’t know why certain website selling at $650???
I got 2 of these running on an ASUS KGPE-D16 for a total 32 cores. If you are running VMs with lite loads or webservers then it works just fine, but don’t expect miraculous performance for floating points scientific calculations. This cpu shares 8 FPU among 16 cores (2 cores with 1 FPU). I tested my 32cores system under Linux Ubuntu 11.10 for protein folding (100% cpu utilization for several days) and its performance is less than 24cores (2p 6172) system. That’s why its price is cheaper than an opteron 6172 (12cores 12FPUs) and op6172 consumes less power also. I don’t know if newer linux kernels or Windows 8 going to optimize for bulldozer/interlagos cpus, lets see.
