AWESOME HARD DRIVE FOR PS3, May 19, 2011

Just got this hard drive today and installed it in minutes. I looked at other drives and found out that WD and Seagate drives had issues. Not this one super quiet and smooth also tons of space. This is the drive for your PS3 upgrade no joke get it and you will have no problems

The packaging was the best on this drive, factory packaged and Amazon put it in a bigger box with air pillows.

5k750 is a good drive, just not as good as the 5k500b, May 26, 2011

I was temped by this new drive, with having such a great experience with two Hitachi Travelstar 2.5″ 500GB 5400RPM SATA II 8MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0A57915 in terms of noise, power consumption and temperatures, i decided to try the 5k750 for a new low powered build. The drive performs fine, i would even say feels faster than 5k500b, but its not as quiet as it, there is a slight high pitch noisy when it seeks (pls take in account that i dislike noisy hdd, average user might not notice it that much or be bother by it). Another thing is that this drive doesnt work good with my USB2 enclosures, it needs dual USB plugs for it to start and even then it vibrates much more than 5k500b. One last remark, the drive has done a couple wierd noises, nothing that i have heard before or no way to reproduce it.

Overall i should just gone with 5k500b, its a proven drive, i didn’t needed the extra space nor the extra noise, but thats what you sometimes get into gambling with new products. Again this drive might be great for most people, but for me its not as good. If you don’t need the extra space of this drive, just go with 5k500b, its to me, the best atm for 2.5 low powered, low noise, low vibration, and decent performance.

Edit 7/9/11: I replaced the 5k750 from the PC with a 5k500b, and working like all my other 2, really good drive imo. Out of not wanting to waste this drive, i bought an MSI Coolmax External Enclosure with SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Connection HD-250TN-U3 (Silver), the drive performs really well there, with up to 100Mb/s transfers writes (not always, read my review of the enclosure), its almost silent as portable drive, gets slightly warm inside the enclosure but nothing to worry, i dont feel it vibrates much anymore, pretty much even with 5k500b, so im uping to 4 stars as i feel its a good drive just not as good as 5k500b for an OS drive.

I put this HDD inside a MacBook Pro 15″ Core i5 2010. It works. I built a system using the Western Digital Scorpio Blue as well. Noise comparisons? WD Blue is quieter in general. However, the sound that happens when the heads park for going idle, the WD Blue really annoys me. The Hitachi is less annoying for parkings heads. However, it is slightly noisier in normal operation and HDD seek noises are louder.

For a $10 difference, bet the Scorpio Blue or Black if using the MacBook Pro. Seagate Momentus XT issues have not been resolved for Macs, AFAIK.
