    I use nVidia cards for rendering scenes from 3d content creation software (in this case Blender with its Cycles GPU renderer), so this review will almost certainly not be relevant to most of the people looking at this item. I got this as an upgrade over my current EVGA GTX 550 Ti (which I also used for 3D rendering but didn’t have enough RAM for large scenes). I do realize that these cards are made with gaming in mind but give such good performance (thanks to those CUDA cores) that they are a much better deal than either the Quadro or Tesla GPUs. The only real downside is the heat that these generate. My old 550 would hover at a steady 80C while under load (which is for a very long time in this sort of application since the GPU will work at 99-100% for the duration of the render – which can take between a few minutes to months if you are rendering a longer animation). This GTX 570 has the advantage of having 2.5gb RAM onboard but also generates a LOT more heat thanks to its higher clock speed and significantly higher core count.

    During renders it would idle at 89-90C, which is way up there. Some messing around with the included Precision tuning software to up the fan speeds helped cool things down a little but eventually I had to underclock the card by around 200mhz to get it down to around 80C.

    Performance-wise it cut render times down to a quarter! Totally worth it when that means ~5 hours versus ~20 for an image.

    I am investing in a couple more fans to move air in, out, and around my system. Liquid cooling would probably do this wonders but I don’t trust it in case of a leak in my main production machine.

    I would love to tell you how it runs games but the most graphically demanding one that I own for the PC is Bioshock (which is far from new), which this runs buttery smooth on max settings. So take that for whatever it is worth.

    It is worth noting that I live in Hawaii and therefore have a pretty high ambient temperature 🙁

    I will upload some example screenshots of it in action.

    Update – 2 weeks later: After adding three additional fans to my system I had only managed to get the GPU temperature to drop by 4C. The idea of having it burn out soon or melt down/ catch fire (unlikely though that may be) led me to give in and invest in liquid cooling. I got a Koolance EXT-440 external all in one (pump, liquid reservoir, radiator) with a Koolance GPU-210 universal GPU cooling block and some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. It wasn’t cheap, but it actually runs at a good temperature now (and altogether still costs less than a good Quadro card!). Under very heavy load it sticks to 60C with the standard clock settings. If I underclock I can get it to run at a steady 40C under full load. Much happier now, just cross fingers that I don’t end up with a spill 🙂

    My choice for the larger memory. Great for a 1920×1200 resolution monitor. Can play SWTOR at max res with 60 FPS. I would suggest using a reference model if you plan on modifying it with an after-market fan cooler. Not the same form-factor as the standard GTX 570. This model will not take the backplate or high-airflow bracket either. I found this out the hard way unfortunately. If I had one complaint about EVGA, it’s the fact that such an expensive product would require an added purchase for a backplate?!? And for this model, they don’t even make one. Why would they not include the added stability and quality the backplate adds to such an already expensive product? It would have been a 5 star review if it wasn’t for the backplate issue.

    This is a monster of a card for the price compared from the stander 570 by Vega that comes stocked with roughly 1.2 g of GDDR 5 ram. For 50 dollars more you can get this edition coming stocked at about 2.5 gigs of GDDR5 ram double the original ram. The processor speed is relatively close to the Geforce GTX 580 with a slightly lower texture filtering rate then the Geforce GTX 580 but with the cost of the 580 being around 600$+ or the insane Geforce GTX 590 sitting around 800 – 1000$ all in all this is a very competitive card for the price. this card will be able to play to play the most current generation benchmark games right now like BF3 with vary high settings if not maxed ( dependent upon the components in your pc). this is a top of the line card with out the overwhelming price for the moderate to high end PC gaming enthusiast and i highly recommend it.

    i may give more detailed info on the cards running temps and power consumption in the future as i see fit. If i don’t update this review then i dont see any reasone to warn you about either of these concerning issues

    ps your going to be looking for roughly a 600 watt PSU[aka power supply]( it ask for a 550 watt but you might want the extra leeway) capable of putting out 38 amps encase your wonder of the kind of power you will need and it requires 2 6 pin power addapters
    ( pleas don’t get mad for the most likely know knowledge. i’m im only saying this because the Geforce 580 requires an 8 pin adapter with a 6 pin and the 590 2 8 pin adapters and a 6 pin
