There are a bunch of things I love about this monitor. First, it has a 5:4 aspect ratio, which I really prefer for a computer monitor. The 16:9 ratio is great for movies, but convenience and ease of getting stuff done on my computer is my definite priority.
Second, it pivots. I don’t use this very often, but it’s been extremely handy now and then, when I need to work on portrait oriented documents. I love how easy it’s been to pop into and out of this mode with just a few mouse clicks and a spin to the screen. I’m running mine as an external monitor for a 15″ (Mac) powerbook, and when I plug this in my screen space more than doubles. I’m sure the pivoting can be done on the PC (after all, Dell made this), but I’m not sure if it’s as easy.
Third, it was a quick plug and play, with no software loading or hassles of any kind. My mac is an older one with a DVI cable connection, so that’s all I needed to plug in.
Fourth, it’s been unexpectedly handy having the extra USB ports. The monitor comes with a built-in USB hub, which gives me four extra ports (two easily accessible on the side of the monitor, another two on the back) without taking up an inch of desktop. This means I can leave a USB keyboard and mouse plugged into the monitor, and just run one USB plug from the hub to my laptop so I can transition from a portable laptop to desktop mode in a flash.
Fifth, the resolution, brightness and clarity of this display is fantastic, particularly for the price I paid. It’s not only bigger than my built-in monitor, it’s also brighter and just as crisp.
Finding all these things in the same monitor, plus decent looks, an easy-to-adjust display stand, and a great price, have made me very happy with this.

Unaware of the age of this monitor, plus the VGA cable was not included. The seller said he will ship one, however never rec’d it. I went to various stores to attempt to find a cable plus adapter. Finally, located at Staples, cable and DVI to VGA adapter. The monitor is in excellent condition, the picture quality is good for my needs.

From Craiglist. I bought it for $20. I use this hooked up to my old Compaq 2100 laptop running Windows XP in dual monitor mode. Although I really wanted one of these newer 27-28″ widescreen models in 16:9 format, which I’ll eventually purchase, this monitor suffices.
I purchased this item to increase productivity, so I can put up other windows rather than having to switch and minimize. While working on word documents, it’s nice to have the ability to put one document on my laptop and another on the Dell.
It has a good picture, easy to setup (just plug and play). Text is good to read. I like the adjust-ability. I can swivel, rotate, tilt, raise the screen. I like the 4 USB ports on the monitor, as my laptop only has 2 USB ports. I prefer the 16:9 format, rather than this 5:4, but it’s not a big deal. I’m not experiencing wobbling some others have mentioned on other websites. So far, it’s been very stable on my desk.
The only problem I’m having is that when rendering video or when pages are loading, I’m getting this weird horizontal lines that randomly flash for milliseconds. I think that I may be the onboard video processor from the laptop, rather than the monitor itself. I’ll have to test this monitor with one of my other laptops.
It has somewhat of a dated look, as this model came out 5 years ago. However, I couldn’t pass up this deal.
