Pros:Amazing board!!! Cons: High Defect Rate as delivered, May 28, 2012

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Asus MAXIMUS V GENE Z77 mATX DDR3 Intel LGA 1155 Motherboard (Personal Computers)

PROS: This board is truly a great motherboard. The Z77 chip-set is in my opinion the best so far. Can run RAM at 2666mhz (G-Skill Trident X 2666). Quick and “snappy” as I like to call it. No secondary chips on the PCIe lanes to slow things down. On-board graphics on the new Ivy Bridge chips are amazing!! You almost don’t even need a discreet graphics card (almost).

CONS: VERY HIGH “DOA” and defect rate as delivered “new” I do not blame Amazon for this, I hold Asus and their lack of in-house quality control responsible. It has and is becoming to much the norm for companies like Asus and other computer manufacturers to use the RMA process, Warranty/return process at the purchasers expense and frustration instead of in house quality control. I believe I am now on my 5th or 6th board from Amazon. Have had to return/exchange all except for one of these motherboards because of operational defects as new. One board did not register the RAM frequencies correctly and spit out a 9 digit reading instead of the regular 4 digit. Two boards would not work at all, or would work partially. Digital display would not work on one, another would not boot regardless of power supply, CPU *(tried many which worked on other boards). Two boards came with physical damage (plastic surround broken/cracked on the clear Cmos button) The latter I would not consider a return worthy issue however, this was present on two of the boards with other problems which warranted return in and of themselves.

Looks like the latest board (so far) is running and operating as it should be. Simply amazing board when it works!!! (and I have many builds) from P67, Z68, X-79 so on and prior builds going back to the 90’s.

I use Amazon exclusively now because of their wonderful customer service and liberal exchange/return policy. I am a lifetime customer because of it. (Keep up the great work Amazon!!) I have been burned by other companies namely one which has to do with chickens (eggs) and another with Tigers. (cant name names) But you get my drift.

Manufacturers especially Asus WAKE UP you are going to lose customers hand over fist if you do not clean up your act concerning what has become an inherent lack of quality control. Your products are amazing when they work, however, who wants to go through 6 duds before they finally receive a working board? The customers and Amazon are paying the price. AGAIN I AM NOT BLAMING AMAZON, THIS IS A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM.

Also, for the life of me and after many many motherboard purchases, I do not understand,` why do motherboards not come factory sealed?

Word to the wise, only purchase computer motherboards and the like from Amazon. Otherwise your stuck with what you purchase working condition or not. (Asus RMA and support is among the worst in my opinion, you do not want to deal with them)

Simply amazing motherboard!!! (when you get one that works)

    Dear Valued Customer,

We apologize for the issue that you had with the motherboard.

If you’re having trouble getting to POST, please try the following:

With only neccessary components installed (CPU, 1 stick of memory, video card), please try the following:
In addition, identify, if any, LED lights on the right-hand side of the motherboard–CPU_LED, DRAM_LED, VGA_LED, BOOT_DEVICE_LED. If any of these are lit, they indicate where the problem is.

Clear CMOS. Turn off the computer. Turn the switch on the back of the power supply to OFF. On the lower right corner of the motherboard is a jumper marked “CLRTC”, move the jumper from positions 1 and 2 to 2 and 3. Wait about 30 seconds, and move the jumper back to positions 1 and 2. Power on the computer.

Some memory are not compatible with the motherboard. To ensure that memory will work with the motherboard, please try to obtain memory from our Qualified Vendors List (QVL. Downloadable from the product page).

Please make sure to check the power connections, specifically the 24-pin and 8-pin/4-pin. Have you tried using another power supply?

To continue support, please contact me at cl-benson@asus.com reference #C1037-1700. When replying, please include all system parts and specs for faster service.

    Regards,
    Benson

    Too Amazing!, May 23, 2012

The UEFI Bios is amazing, The built int settings are superb, And then when you run the CD you can instal all the software and drivers in 2 goes. I love it. My only complaint is that it is a micro board so if I put a 2 way sli graphics configuration then my first card is gonna have some serious lack of airflow. So that is a drawback. But other than that This is everything you would want from a Republic of Gamer product. I actually got this from Amazon using my grandfathers account. He had amazon prime so the board came in from Circuit city and Amazon in 2 days flat. I am more than pleased with this purchase and it detected all my nice new hardware on the first boot such as the new 3rd gen Processor and my 16 GB of DDR3 Corsair Vengeance RAM. I will be buying from ASUS from now on. This is my First Motherboard and I am happy to say this is a great experience. If you need extra juice in your rig or an update, Go for it.
